Assistance becomes reliance
A worker begins by checking machine output against an independent view. As fluency and usefulness rise, the independent reconstruction becomes partial, then occasional, then economically impossible.
Plausibility defeats scrutiny
The highest-risk output may contain no obviously false statement. It may simply omit the caveat, dependency or competing explanation necessary for the decision being made from it.
Affirmation becomes action
The human accepts, modifies, approves or transmits the output. The institution then acts while preserving the appearance of human oversight and the reality of machine-shaped judgment.
